Angry Birds Space NeedleAngry Birds Space launched on Thursday, March 22nd amid some of the largest marketing hoopla ever for a mobile game.

To commemorate the launch of the space game, Rovio partnered with T-Mobile USA create a 300-foot-tall slingshot and Angry Bird mounted on the Seattle Space Needle. Rovio also cut a deal to embed codes in Angry Birds Space store merchandise at 2,000 Walmart locations, starting on March 25. The deals are all aimed at taking awareness of Angry Birds Space into the stratosphere.

Angry Birds Space is the sequel to Angry Birds, the most successful mobile game to date, with over 700 million downloads and users in the last couple of years.  The launch of the new game is clearly aimed at extending the momentum of the franchise.

Angry Birds Get Their Own Playground

When a game designed for mobile phones has gotten more than a half a billion downloads in less than two years of existence, it’s apparently time to bring it into reality.

That must be what the creators of the Angry Birds game are thinking, anyway. Rovio, which is planning to go public in the next few years, will debut two Angry Birds playgrounds in its homeland of Finland next year, according to Reuters, that will have “animal spring riders, swings, sandpits and a range of climbing towers with slides, and a unique Angry Birds arcade game.”

The company has signed a global deal with playground equipment manufacturer Lappset to create “equipment inspired by the game's characters" for playgrounds

Secret Code for Popular Mobile Game to Be Embedded in 30-Second 'Rio' Spot

 
       


NEW YORK (AdAge.com) -- The biggest craze in mobile games is coming to the biggest game on TV: 20th Century Fox is teaming up with Rovio's "Angry Birds" for a marketing partnership starting on Super Bowl Sunday, when a 30-second spot for the Fox animated film "Rio" will feature an embedded code directing "Angry Birds" players to a special level in the popular mobile game.

The spot was produced in-house by Fox and is set to air during the game's fourth quarter. It will also be available after the Super Bowl on YouTube.
