The Palm Springs International Film Festival, held in the Coachella Valley at the base of Mt. San Jacinto in Southern California, screens a majority of the official international submissions to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences for Best Foreign Language Film. While screening over 200 films from more than 60 countries to an audience of over 120,000, the programming also includes a large selection of short films. The festival which runs until January 16, also features cultural events, filmmaker tributes, industry seminars and an annual black-tie gala award presentation. One of the planned Black Tie Awards Galas happens January 7 with cocktails, dinner and awards show.

It's an event which is held twice annually -- once in Colorado and again in Santa Barbara, California wine country. The Durango Songwriter's Expo gives artists and songwriters the opportunity to network with music supervisors, record labels, music publishers, and have music critiqued in listening sessions, sit in on industry panels and perform musical creations during the evening showcases. At this year's expo in Broomfield, October 6-8, each attendee gets three listening sessions, showcase or open mic opportunities, and full access to workshops and panels. The "Write With The Hitmaker" song contest will run again this year. Sticking with custom, registration is always limited to 200 attedees.

New York's Harlem community hosts a film festival through September 11 that showcases features, documentaries, shorts, youth films and animated works from around the world. Other events include night life, panel discussions, the Brownstone Awards and the Renaissance Awards gala. In addition to showcasing films from around the world, the Festival also features the Harlem Spotlight, which highlights films produced or directed by Harlem residents, films shot in Harlem, or films about Harlem and its history.

Jazz pianist Kyoko Oyobe, whose album of original compositions 'Cookin' at Smalls' was recorded live at  Smalls in Greenwich Village, leads the late night jam session every Tuesday night in July at The Moldy Fig jazz club in New York City.Jazz pianist, Kyoko Oyobe, leads the late night jam session in New York City, Lower Eastside's newest bar, cafe and jazz venue, The Moldy Fig, Tuesday nights in July. In Melbourne, the MuVifest International Music Video Festival, open now through March 30, is a competitive festival originally inspired by independent artists and filmmakers. There are two competition categories, the Global Poverty Project MuVments, and the main festival itself. The festival is an outdoor event that is free to attend and will feature live music, DJ's and entertainment on the Kiss FM Stage, and will have an after party.

In 1995, as CineVic Society of Independent Filmmakers, joined with Origins Theatre to form the Victoria Film Festival, their vision was to establish an annual independent film event in Victoria with a worldwide reputation yet be an intrinsic part of the local community which would serve as a milestone in the careers of young artists and filmmakers it sought to embrace. Right up until January 17, this year’s Palm Springs International Film Festival will feature a new program highlighting African Cinema as well as films selected to compete for the FIPRESCI Award, New Voices/New Visions Award, and John Schlesinger Awards. The sprawling American Film Market (AFM) practically took over the beach front area at Santa Monica beach. Run in conjunction with the AFI Fest film event, the AFM is a marketplace, and not a convention, where production and distribution deals are closed.  The AFM transforms The Loews Santa Monica Beach Hotel, the Le Merigot Beach Hotel, and many other venues along the Santa Monica beach front area into a busy marketplace where 23 screens on the Santa Monica Promenade and the surrounding community become AFM screening rooms for the entire event.
