Has Hasbro become a pro at making movies?  Their track record certainly says so.  The toy company has partnered with Paramount and DreamWorks (TRANSFORMERS), Universal (BATTLESHIP), and has upcoming releases with Relativity Media (STRETCH ARMSTRONG) and Sony/Columbia (CANDY LAND) to name a few.  Hasbro Toys

Many are saying this new shift in films is marking Hollywood's turn to our toyboxes in search of franchises.  Hasbro is without a doubt right in the thick of this trend.  With Michael Bay signed on to OUIJI and Ridley Scott for MONOPOLY, the next couple of years could be laden with revivals of our favorite chidlhood games.  

Hasbro's Chief Executive, Brian Goldner, is a man with a clear plan.  Going Hollywood is a low risk-strategy for the toy company.

Snow White Apparel on HSN


Three-time academy award-winning costume designer Colleen Atwood will launch her first apparel collection, inspired by her work on Universal’s Snow White and the Huntsman. The exclusive capsule collection will debut on HSN during a multi-platform live event on May 30, in advance of the June 1 release of the movie.

"Snow White and the Huntsman is a beautiful film with rich characters and themes that have provided a wonderful palette of inspiration for my designs," says Atwood. "I'm excited to bring my first apparel collection to HSN and look forward to making my debut in May."

IHOP Kicks Off Lorax Promotion

IHOP has partnered with Universal Partnerships & Licensing for a Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax promotion to support the Universal Pictures and Illumination Entertainment film release, which arrives in U.S. theaters March 2.

IHOP will distribute three million limited-edition bookmarks embedded with seed paper that can be planted to flourish across a range of climates and forest conditions. The bookmarks will be given to children ages 3-12, while supplies last.

In addition, IHOP is rolling out a movie inspired, limited time menu for guests of all ages featuring The Lorax’s breakfast, Pipsqueak’s breakfast or Mac ‘N Cheese and Truffula Trees.

Universal Unveils Lorax Partners
Universal Partnerships & Licensing has unveiled its consumer products and promotional partners for the 3D-CG feature release of Dr. Seuss' The Lorax March 2. 

Universal has signed 69 partners globally. U.S. partners include the Environmental Protection Agency, Seventh Generation, Whole Foods Market, HP, Mazda, Comcast, DoubleTree by Hilton, Pottery Barn Kids, Stonyfield Farms and, returning for its second partnership with Universal and Illumination Entertainment, IHOP. 

International partners include Clean Up Australia, De Hortus Botanicus Amsterdam, Eko Plaza Netherlands, Greenpeace Philippines, Natural History Museum of Milan Italy, Woodland Trust U.K. and World Wildlife Fund of Italy

Harry Potter attraction coming to Universal Studios Hollywood


Hogwarts is coming to Hollywood.

Universal Studios is planning to build a replica of its successful Florida Harry Potter theme park in Los Angeles, said people familiar with the matter but not authorized to discuss it publicly.

A contract between Comcast Corp.-owned Universal and Warner Bros., which made the "Harry Potter" movies and controls licensing rights to author J.K. Rowling's books about the boy wizard, is being finalized and should be done within the next few weeks, the people said.

The new attraction is expected to open at Universal Studios Hollywood no earlier than 2015.

Universal's exclusive deal with Walmart marks first time that the retailer has used a licensed property to brand a seasonal campaign.

To promote its new live action/CG-animated movie Hop, which opens Friday, Universal Pictures has assembled a total of 92 promotional partners and licensees worldwide including Walmart, Burger King, Comcast, Hallmark, the Hershey Company and Kodak.
