Universal Pictures and Nestle teamed to promote the theatrical release of KING KONG. One grand prize winner of the online instant win game or wrapper game received a trip for four adults to New York City. 1,000 second prize winners received Peter Jackson's KING KONG: The Official Video Game. 100 first prize winners received a Nintendo DS Console, Nintendo DS Starter Kit and a King Kong video game. Universal Pictures’ upcoming June release, Snow White and the Huntsman, will receive a 24-hour marketing push at retail May 30, thanks to a partnership with HSN.
HSN will feature exclusive collections inspired by the film including high-end jewelry, fashions and home accessories from designers such as Hutton Wilkinson, Loree Rodkin and Heidi Daus across its platforms. The designs, which also include styles from Ranjana Khan and Adrienne Landau, will be driven on TV, HSN.com and HSN mobile. Paramount Pictures is celebrating its centennial on May 8th with a new logo that debuted in December. If you caught Dr. Seuss' The Lorax you may have noticed Universal Pictures' new animated logo for its 100th anniversary, which is coming up on April 6th. Created by Weta Digital, it features Brian Tyler's new arrangement of Jerry Goldsmith's classic score. The previous Universal logo premiered with The Lost World: Jurassic Park in 1997. Lighting up the family marketplace, Universal and Illumination Entertainment's environmentally minded Dr. Seuss' The Lorax debuted to a staggering $70.7 million, marking the best opening ever for a non-sequel animated title if the number holds. The 3D pic -- receiving a glowing A CinemaScore -- narrowly bested the $70.5 million earned by Pixar's The Incredibles in 2004, according to Universal estimates. Final numbers will come in Monday morning. Either way, Lorax is an enormous victory for Universal and Illumination, as well as the film business in general. Box office up sharply in 2012More releases lead to 21 percent rise over last year
Thanks in part to seven more wide releases in the first two months of the year, domestic box office is up a healthy 21% over 2011.
The $1.57 billion total is good news at a time when bizzers are concerned about changing audience behavior. But the upturn still wasn't enough to outdo record-breaking results in early 2009 and 2010. Universal Pictures partnered with Whole Foods for the film DR. SEUSS' THE LORAX with a "Kids For Our Planet" Essay Contest. Parents and teachers who know kids or a group of kids were asked to tell their story about how they made a difference in the environment. Contestants first had to "like" the Whole Foods Market page on Facebook and then submit their essays. A winner was selected on February 14, 2012 and received a private screening of DR. SEUSS' THE LORAX for up to 200 people at a theater in the winner's hometown. Three first prize winners received an Eco-Friendly Garden Tote that contained stainless steel gardening tools and a copy of DR. SEUSS' THE LORAX book. The contest ran from January 25, 2012 to February 8, 2012.

‘Bridesmaids’ Director Paul Feig to Helm ‘The Better Woman’ Director Paul Feig is ready for his next directorial effort after helming the very successful romantic comedy Bridesmaids. In a report from Variety, Feig preparing The Better Woman as his next film, which will be another female-lead comedy for Universal. According to the trade “story follows a high-powered young executive who is dumped by her boyfriend for an older woman. She befriends the woman to discover why her boyfriend chose her, and rediscovers herself in the process.” While the premise itself sounds cheesy at best, Feig has proven himself to be a very capable director.
