Twitter Plots Big Changes to Brand Pages

E-Commerce, Contests, Sweepstakes Among Features Planned for Advertisers

 

Big changes are coming to Twitter's "brand pages," the landing pages it offers to some marketers that also spend ad dollars on the network.

Launched in December, the pages show the brand's Twitter feed and images, but Twitter plans to add experiences, including e-commerce, contests and sweepstakes, according to three executives familiar with the matter.

If you didn't know that McDonald's has overhauled its iconic Happy Meal in the interests of better nutrition for kids, you soon will.

The chain begins USA-wide exposure on Wednesday of new TV commercials touting the more healthful Happy Meal, introducing a new cast of back-to-the-farm friendly characters (a boy and his goat) that are putting Hamburglar and Mayor McCheese out to pasture, apparently for good.

In response to pressure from First Lady Michelle Obama on down, McDonald's has evolved the Happy Meal into a more healthful repast that includes more better-for-you elements. Promo partners fly to 'Rio'

20th Century Fox signs on a record 82 brands for toon

"Rio" isn't an obvious magnet for marketers, since 20th Century Fox's toon isn't based on a popular property.

But a number of high-profile brands, including McDonald's, Overstock.com, Benjamin Moore and Chiquita, have flocked to tie in with the animated pic from Blue Sky Studios that starts flying into theaters overseas in 17 markets April 8 before landing on domestic screens April 15.
