Nintendo Courting Media Partners for New Wii

The Xbox 360 is proving to be such a popular media entertainment device that even Nintendo wants one of its own.

The Japanese gaming giant has begun preliminary conversations with several major media companies, exploring possible content distribution partnerships for the upcoming Wii U, the sequel to Nintendo’s smash hit gaming console.

According to multiple sources, Nintendo is eyeing the Xbox’s expansion beyond gaming and is looking to emulate its strategy for the Wii U. Universal Unveils Lorax Partners
Universal Partnerships & Licensing has unveiled its consumer products and promotional partners for the 3D-CG feature release of Dr. Seuss' The Lorax March 2. 

Universal has signed 69 partners globally. U.S. partners include the Environmental Protection Agency, Seventh Generation, Whole Foods Market, HP, Mazda, Comcast, DoubleTree by Hilton, Pottery Barn Kids, Stonyfield Farms and, returning for its second partnership with Universal and Illumination Entertainment, IHOP. 

International partners include Clean Up Australia, De Hortus Botanicus Amsterdam, Eko Plaza Netherlands, Greenpeace Philippines, Natural History Museum of Milan Italy, Woodland Trust U.K. and World Wildlife Fund of Italy

Harry Potter attraction coming to Universal Studios Hollywood


Hogwarts is coming to Hollywood.

Universal Studios is planning to build a replica of its successful Florida Harry Potter theme park in Los Angeles, said people familiar with the matter but not authorized to discuss it publicly.

A contract between Comcast Corp.-owned Universal and Warner Bros., which made the "Harry Potter" movies and controls licensing rights to author J.K. Rowling's books about the boy wizard, is being finalized and should be done within the next few weeks, the people said.

The new attraction is expected to open at Universal Studios Hollywood no earlier than 2015.

Universal's exclusive deal with Walmart marks first time that the retailer has used a licensed property to brand a seasonal campaign.
